Firefighters from Warren and Howland worked to extinguish a blaze at a city shopping plaza Sunday afternoon. A caller reported seeing the fire and smoke at 3:19 p.m. Sunday in the Marketplace Plaza, 5000 E. Market St. The fire began inside Nouveau Interiors. Firefighters smashed glass doors of neighboring shops as well to vent smoke. Many businesses, including Bailey’s Pub, a dentist’s office, a hearing aid center and a clothing store, were heavily damaged by smoke. The shops all were closed when the fire broke out. City fire officials said the cause remains under investigation. Damage estimates have yet to be determined. See more photos on CU by visiting cu.tribune-chronicle.com
